Dr. Cofer is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  Originally from Chattanooga, TN, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Genetics at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 3 years.  After graduation, Dr. Cofer received the prestigious Andy Holt Award and a 4-year scholarship to attend dental school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.  While in dental school, Dr. Cofer was the recipient of many awards, including outstanding student in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.  He also served on mission trips in Central America by providing medical/dental care and helping to build churches.  Upon earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with Honors, he was selected by the faculty to receive the International College of Dentists Leadership Award.

After completing his doctorate, Dr. Cofer began a 4-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.  During his training, Dr. Cofer gained extensive surgical experience in dentoalveolar surgery and wisdom teeth extractions, bone grafting and complex dental implant reconstructive procedures, facial trauma and reconstruction, benign and malignant pathology of the head and neck, corrective jaw surgery, cleft lip and palate, and facial cosmetic surgery.  In order to provide the highest level of safety and care to his patients, Dr. Cofer was trained extensively in both office-based anesthesia and general anesthesia.  He completed additional rotations in pediatric anesthesia, general surgery, trauma surgery, plastic surgery, surgery critical care, otolaryngology, and internal medicine.  He obtained certification in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Fundamental Critical Care Support.  He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and is the past President of the Grand Strand Dental Society.  Dr. Cofer maintains staff privileges at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and Conway Medical Center.

Dr. Cofer married his wife, Mary Catherine, in 2013. They have been blessed with two wonderful children, Talley and Worth, and they couldn’t be happier to call the Grand Strand home.  In addition to spending time with his family, Dr. Cofer enjoys playing golf, going to the beach, watching baseball, and cheering on the Volunteers!
